A Lot Can Happen in a Year! ZOMM 2010 Wrap-up

It’s hard to believe that 2010 has come and gone! It seems like just yesterday we were sitting around my dining room table putting the idea of ZOMM on paper. I can’t help but feel so blessed by everything that has happened for us and ZOMM this year.

ZOMM Wireless Leash

Let’s recap:

January – Consumer Electronics Best of Innovations Award
After unveiling the ZOMM Wireless Leash at the Consumer Electronics Show in January, ZOMM was named “Best of Innovations.” We were thrilled to be honored with this award which has been won by companies like Samsung, Panasonic and Nokia in the past.

February – Impressing the media

We continued to feel the love from CES in February. We generated about 100 million media impressions that resulted in being featured on the Today Show and Martha Stewart!

March – ZOMM Rolling off Assembly Line

In just under a year, ZOMM went from idea to reality. Needless to say, seeing the first ZOMM Wireless Leash roll off the assembly line was an incredible feeling for all of us.

April – New Headquarters Opens

By April we were settled into our new headquarters in Tulsa—complete with my homemade zebra print conference table!

May – New York City Press Tour
In May we took to the sky and traveled to New York City for a press tour. We met with editors and producers throughout the city in order to spread the word of ZOMM. Due to the press tour, we saw coverage in several national publications, including Forbes, Laptop and Good Housekeeping.

June – Official ZOMM Launch

In June we officially launched ZOMM! We fulfilled all pre-orders from CES and began selling ZOMM directly from our website and through retail.

August – Parachuting with the Army Golden Knights

We were excited to be the Titanium sponsor for Openca.mp in Dallas. What was even more exciting was seeing John Pozadzides make the first-ever phone call during a parachute descent…on a ZOMM!

September – ZOMM National Television Commercial
With Cali Lewis as our spokesperson, we blazed a new trail with our first National Television Commercial. Appearing on FoxNews, Biography and G4 Channels, it was another way to spread the word of ZOMM far and wide.

October – New Website
After lots of hard work and many tweaks, we rolled out the new design of our website. The new, sleek design shows off the features of ZOMM and incorporates video right onto the site! We also updated our online store, making it more user-friendly.

November – Firmware Upgrade
You talked and we listened. We took your feedback about ZOMM and made changes. Then we announced the free firmware upgrade and MyZOMM software. The upgrade included the option to turn the ZOMM ringer off as well as the ability to set the distance of the alarm.

December – Worldwide Expansion
Less than a year from our launch, ZOMM is going global. We know Americans aren’t the only people who lose their phones. So by expanding distribution to Europe, we hope to help our forgetful friends in other countries as well.

2010 has been a wild ride! We’re looking forward to 2011 as another opportunity to grow with new features, products and offices around the globe. Thank you to everyone who has played a part in our success this year! Here’s to a happy, healthy and prosperous 2011!

Chris Pirillo Tells You How to Find Lost Gadgets

The ZOMM team was lucky enough to meet up with Chris Pirillo (also known as Lockergnome) this summer at Opencamp. Since then he’s been using a ZOMM. Now, he’s sharing his thoughts on the World’s First Wireless Leash:

Latest ZOMM Happenings

As usual, things have been super busy in the ZOMM headquarters this fall.  We’ve been busy traveling to conferences like Opencamp and shows like CTIA’s Mobile Focus in order to spread the word about ZOMM.

That’s not all we’ve been doing to spread the word, though. Zac, the Z in ZOMM and our web designer, has been hard at work designing, updating and tweaking our website. Though every stage has looked great, we think the version up now is especially user-friendly. Check it out and let me know what you think!

Another way we’ve been spreading the word of ZOMM is through a national television commercial! The beautiful Cali Lewis serves as our spokesperson in the 30-second spot. Maybe you’ve seen it? It’s been running on FoxNews, Biography and G4 Channels. Make sure to let us know if you see it in your area! If you just can’t wait to see it on TV, visit our YouTube channel to see the commercial, and lots of other awesome ZOMM videos.

Have a great week everyone!

ZOMM Opencamp Recap – Parachuting, Demoing and Blogging!

Like most kids, the ZOMM team went to camp this summer. Ours just happened to be a little different.  It is called Opencamp.

ZOMM Titanium Opencamp Sponsor

A few weeks ago we told you about Opencamp, and that ZOMM served as the Titanium Sponsor. Equipped with matching “alarmingly SMART” t-shirts and a customized van, the ZOMM team had a great time as they took over Dallas for the weekend.

The event started out strong on Friday night with a skydiving display by the Army Golden Knights. Opencamp organizer, John Pozadzides, participated in the jump, tethered to one of the soldiers. As if skydiving wasn’t exciting enough, John decided to up the ante…

Mid jump, John pulled out his ZOMM (which was pre-programmed to dial Cali Lewis instead of 911) and made a call. When Cali answered the call, those of us on the ground were able to hear John describe what it was like to be parachuting to the ground—it was incredible!

The Army Golden Knights have been parachuting for 50 years, and never once have that made a call during their descent. It’s pretty amazing to know that the first call was made from a ZOMM! (visit our Facebook page to see a video of John’s reaction to the call.)

Throughout Saturday and Sunday, the ZOMM team demoed the ZOMM Wireless Leash to hundreds of Opencamp goers—and generated a ton of buzz around the multi-featured Bluetooth device. Whether it was the wireless leash, call notification and speakerphone or personal safety aspect, everyone found something appealing about ZOMM.

ZOMM Demo Opencamp

The team is still running off of momentum from the weekend, and can’t wait for our next opportunity to be part of such an exciting event.

ZOMM: Proud to Be Titanium Sponsor of OpenCa.mp

We are proud to announce that we are the Titanium Sponsor for OpenCa.mp 2010! The event takes place August 27 – 29 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Addison, Texas. But you’re probably wondering what OpenCa.mp is, aren’t you?

“OpenCamp is the SouthWest’s first multi-platform web conference. With top speakers covering topics ranging from social media to technical development, content creation, revenue generation and more, webmasters and web developers, bloggers, podcasters and technologists on any platform are welcome.”

The event will consist of speakers, break-out sessions, a help desk and, of course, parties and prizes! Included on the full list of speakers is Cali Lewis, of GeekBeat.TV (formerly GeekBrief), a familiar face as she’s covered ZOMM when we first announced at CES and then again this past month when she had a chance to demo it!

We’re very excited to be part of such a great event and to give other start-ups the opportunity to learn about blogging and social media. Our team will be attending the entire event, so come out and say hello!

Interested in attending? Or just want to learn more about the event? Check out this video:
