The 2012 International CES – a ZOMM Preview

It’s almost that time—time for the biggest trade show of the year: the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES).

2012 CES

We first launched ZOMM at the 2010 show, where we won the 2010 International CES “The Best of Innovations” Award. We traveled back to Vegas last January, where we unveiled the ZOMM Pink for the first time, along with the Safe Driving Kit.

Now we’re gearing up for our third appearance at the show, with something brand new! You’ll have to wait until the show to find out just what it is, but we can tell you that it’s already won three Innovations Awards!

Our whole team will be making the trek to Vegas and we’d love to see you! From January 10 thru January 13, you can find us in the North Hall at booth #2830. If you can’t make it to the show, be sure to follow us on Twitter and Facebook as we’ll be providing updates (and contest opportunities) throughout the show!

2011 International CES – ZOMM Goes to Vegas

As Laurie said in her 2010 wrap-up, we can hardly believe ZOMM has already been around for a year. It seems like just yesterday we were unveiling our Wireless Leash at the 2010 International CES !

However, this week we’re headed back to Las Vegas  for our second Consumer Electronics Show.

We’re excited to reveal new features and options for our ZOMM Wireless Leash this year. First, we’re introducing a color variant—Pink! Not only is pink a highly requested color for women and teens, but pink represents Breast Cancer Awareness, and ZOMM will donate a portion of each ZOMM Pink sale to the Breast Cancer research.

With many states now banning in-vehicle cell phone use, we’ve developed a ZOMM car kit to make hands-free calls even easier. The new car kit accessory pack includes a custom ZOMM visor clip, an easily detachable keychain and a custom ZOMM car charger.

Both of these new products will be on display at our booth in North Hall, #1035C. We hope you’ll stop by to check out the new products and meet our ZOMM team!

A Lot Can Happen in a Year! ZOMM 2010 Wrap-up

It’s hard to believe that 2010 has come and gone! It seems like just yesterday we were sitting around my dining room table putting the idea of ZOMM on paper. I can’t help but feel so blessed by everything that has happened for us and ZOMM this year.

ZOMM Wireless Leash

Let’s recap:

January – Consumer Electronics Best of Innovations Award
After unveiling the ZOMM Wireless Leash at the Consumer Electronics Show in January, ZOMM was named “Best of Innovations.” We were thrilled to be honored with this award which has been won by companies like Samsung, Panasonic and Nokia in the past.

February – Impressing the media

We continued to feel the love from CES in February. We generated about 100 million media impressions that resulted in being featured on the Today Show and Martha Stewart!

March – ZOMM Rolling off Assembly Line

In just under a year, ZOMM went from idea to reality. Needless to say, seeing the first ZOMM Wireless Leash roll off the assembly line was an incredible feeling for all of us.

April – New Headquarters Opens

By April we were settled into our new headquarters in Tulsa—complete with my homemade zebra print conference table!

May – New York City Press Tour
In May we took to the sky and traveled to New York City for a press tour. We met with editors and producers throughout the city in order to spread the word of ZOMM. Due to the press tour, we saw coverage in several national publications, including Forbes, Laptop and Good Housekeeping.

June – Official ZOMM Launch

In June we officially launched ZOMM! We fulfilled all pre-orders from CES and began selling ZOMM directly from our website and through retail.

August – Parachuting with the Army Golden Knights

We were excited to be the Titanium sponsor for Openca.mp in Dallas. What was even more exciting was seeing John Pozadzides make the first-ever phone call during a parachute descent…on a ZOMM!

September – ZOMM National Television Commercial
With Cali Lewis as our spokesperson, we blazed a new trail with our first National Television Commercial. Appearing on FoxNews, Biography and G4 Channels, it was another way to spread the word of ZOMM far and wide.

October – New Website
After lots of hard work and many tweaks, we rolled out the new design of our website. The new, sleek design shows off the features of ZOMM and incorporates video right onto the site! We also updated our online store, making it more user-friendly.

November – Firmware Upgrade
You talked and we listened. We took your feedback about ZOMM and made changes. Then we announced the free firmware upgrade and MyZOMM software. The upgrade included the option to turn the ZOMM ringer off as well as the ability to set the distance of the alarm.

December – Worldwide Expansion
Less than a year from our launch, ZOMM is going global. We know Americans aren’t the only people who lose their phones. So by expanding distribution to Europe, we hope to help our forgetful friends in other countries as well.

2010 has been a wild ride! We’re looking forward to 2011 as another opportunity to grow with new features, products and offices around the globe. Thank you to everyone who has played a part in our success this year! Here’s to a happy, healthy and prosperous 2011!

CBS’s BNET.com Reviews the ZOMM

Review: Zomm ‘Wireless Leash’ for Mobile Phones

Back in January we expressed our gadget lust for the Zomm, a combination Bluetooth speakerphone, “wireless leash,” and panic button. Now that we’ve had a chance to try one firsthand, is there still lust in our hearts — or Zomm-thing less?

About the size of a small stack of poker chips and weighing barely a quarter of an ounce, the Zomm can ride easily and unobtrusively on a keychain.

After pairing with your cell phone, it sounds an alarm — first vibrating, then flashing, and finally beeping loudly — whenever it loses the Bluetooth link (usually at around 30 feet).

To put it in more real-world terms, the Zomm keeps you from forgetting your phone at home, the office, or anywhere else you might leave it lying around. You can’t get a dozen yards away before feeling, seeing, and/or hearing a reminder.

The “WellConnectedMom” Reviews the ZOMM

Have You Joined the Loser Club?
by Lori Cunningham

{For a chance to win a ZOMM, see the end of this post}

You may recall from my CES 2010: Great Technology Products for Moms article in January, that the ZOMM, was my #1 favorite product from CES (Consumer Electronics Show). The Zomm was created by a mom, Laurie Penix, whose three children were constantly losing their cellphones. ZOMM stands for Zac, Olivia and Madison’s Mom. The ZOMM is a keychain you attach to your keys that connects wirelessly, through Bluetooth, to your cell phone. Should you leave your house, a taxi cab, a restaurant, the gym, etc. without your phone, the ZOMM, will set off an alarm to alert you that you are leaving your phone behind. I had the opportunity to talk with Laurie at CES as a member of the press.

ZOMM, The World’s First Wireless Leash for the Mobile Phone, Unveiled at CES

ZOMM – THE WORLD’S FIRST BLUETOOTH® WIRELESS LEASH FOR MOBILE PHONES UNVEILED AT CES, JANUARY 5, 2010

TULSA, Okla. (Jan. 4, 2010) – With billions of mobile phones being used worldwide, thousands of people walk away and accidentally leave their phone behind on a daily basis. ZOMM has created the solution.

ZOMM, a wireless leash for any Bluetooth-enabled phone, will sound an alarm if you walk away from your mobile phone, notifying you to turn around. The award-winning device also features call notification with speakerphone, a panic alarm and a feature that allows you to call emergency assistance from anywhere in the world with just one press of a button.

“Mobile phones are packed full of personal information and confidential business communication, so losing one is a nightmare for most people,” said Henry Penix, co-founder of ZOMM. “My wife originally thought of ZOMM to prevent our family from leaving our phones at restaurants or coffee shops. With the added features of call notification and personal security, it became a “must-have” companion for every mobile phone we own.”

ZOMM is smaller than a normal electronic car key and easily attaches to a key ring. It fits comfortably in your pocket or purse and can even attach to a piece of clothing or workout gear. Similar in diameter to a poker chip, ZOMM features a single button for ease of use, LED lights for visual notifications, a microphone for two-way communications and a speaker for audible alerts including full speakerphone functionality.

As a wireless leash to your mobile phone, ZOMM sends an alert if you ever accidentally leave your mobile phone behind. With call notification, ZOMM will vibrate, flash lights and provide a sound alert for incoming calls when your mobile phone is out of sight; in a purse, gym bag or in a noisy environment. To answer a call just press a button and ZOMM is a fully functioning speakerphone. To send to voice mail, just press the multifunction button twice.

As a personal security device, ZOMM will sound a panic alarm and/or call for emergency assistance from anywhere in the world with just one press of a button. With its speakerphone capabilities, you can speak to emergency personnel without ever touching your mobile phone.

ZOMM is a device that not only keeps your mobile phone secure, but also helps keep you and your family safe,” said Laurie Penix, ZOMM’s co-founder. “With two kids in college and a senior in high school, I feel better knowing they have a panic alarm that sounds an ear piercing alert to fend off a would-be attacker, AND calls emergency assistance if they choose.”

Award Winning
ZOMM is taking the consumer electronic industry by storm, having won the 2010 International CES “The Best of Innovations” Award. The competition honors outstanding design and engineering in consumer electronics products from around the world. Entrants are judged by a preeminent panel of independent industrial designers, engineers and members of the trade press. Past award winners include; Samsung, Nokia, Panasonic and many other world brands and household names.

Availability
ZOMM will be available for retail in the second quarter of 2010, in both black and white color options. It uses a lithium-ion battery with a single charge lasting approximately three days. ZOMM also comes with a standard micro USB wall charger, a micro USB charger that connects with any computer (for updates and activation) and optional clips for ease of use.

About ZOMM
ZOMM is the world’s first Bluetooth wireless leash for mobile phones, with call notification and personal security. It is the brainchild of Laurie Penix, a mother of three, who kept hearing her kids and friends complain about their lost mobile phones. Together with her husband, Henry, they created ZOMM. And, for added safety for her and her family, the panic alarm and the ability to call emergency assistance from anywhere in the world was an added bonus.

  • ZOMM Loves Female Innovators

As many know, ZOMM was invented by Laurie Penix, the mom of the Penix family. Laurie recalls being on the treadmill, watching Oprah, when a phone call from a girlfriend inspired her to look further into the idea of a wireless leash. Inspired by Laurie’s innovation, we’ve taken it upon ourselves to find some of the other top mompreneurs to share with – and hopefully inspire – everyone....
