Miss Oklahoma Loves ZOMM!

The Penix family members are lifelong residents of the great state of Oklahoma. And the ZOMM headquarters  proudly stand in Tulsa, Oklahoma. So it only makes sense that Miss Oklahoma, a major representative of the state, should receive a ZOMM.

Last month Henry sent Miss Oklahoma, Emoly West, her very own bedazzled ZOMM. And guess what…she loves it!

Henry received a lovely thank you note from Emoly this week. She graciously thanked him for “thinking of Miss Oklahoma, and providing me with the ‘world’s first wireless leash.’” She went on to gush about how the ZOMM “is a real eye-catcher and definitely accentuates my keychain!”

So glad to hear she’s enjoying her ZOMM and we wish her the best of luck throughout her reign.

Typical Mac User Features ZOMM

The new ZOMM Wireless Leash – Alarm. A neat gadget for an older guy like me

As I was cruising Twitter yesterday my friend Cali Lewis (@calilewis) tweeted that John Pozadzides (@johnpoz) was “showing off the Zomm at dinner.” Ok, what the heck is a Zomm? I was intrigued and went the their web site www.zomm.comto look at this gadget I’d never heard of. You see it seems that since I turned about 45 my memory is not one of my strongest attributes. I often forget my iPhone in the house, or I panic because I think I have lost it but left it in the house. As I read about what the Zomm could do for $79.99 US., I thought maybe this is the answer to this problem.

As if we needed more proof that we live in the future we now have the Zomm. It a part Blue-tooth speakerphone, “wireless leash,” and panic button. I saw on their site that it was available at Best Buy so I went over this morning and bought one. I usually request a review unit, but given my propensity to loose things, I could not wait.

At first I thought it would be too big and the last thing I wanted was another huge dongle in my pocket. I was happily surprised that the Zomm is about the size of an old silver dollar and weighs barely a quarter of an ounce. So that for me is not a problem. I had to charge the unit for about two hours before using it, but after a very user friendly activation process (via an OS X app) the device worked just as advertised.

So here is how the Zomm works as a wireless leash. After pairing with your cell phone, it sounds an alarm, first vibrating, then flashing, and finally beeping loudly, whenever it loses the Blue-tooth link (usually at around 30 feet). I took a walk outside and about the time I got to the middle of the street sure enough I knew I did not have my iPhone 4.

So for an older guy like me the Zomm is going to keep me from forgetting my phone at home, work, or anywhere I might leave it lying around. That for me is worth the price of this device along. Now I just have to remember not to lose my keys. The Zomm also vibrates, flashes, and beeps whenever a call comes in. That’s a real advantage as sometimes I don’t feel my iPhone 4 when its on vibrate only mode.

ZOMM = A Mother’s Peace of Mind

With my two girls being on their own this summer, I felt better knowing they had their ZOMMs. I knew that with a ZOMM in hand, they would drive safer by using the call notification and speakerphone feature. I knew they wouldn’t leave their phones behind during one of their many outings with the wireless leash feature. And I knew they would be protected by the panic alarm and emergency calling feature.

Knowing they had all of that protection from one small device made me feel so much more at ease.

I will admit, I cried when I had to leave them on their own, but it was definitely comforting to know they had their ZOMMs. My girls are headed off to college and I’m making sure their ZOMMs are packed with them for that adventure as well!

Summer Travel: Blue(tooth) Laws

Today, many people think driving and talking on the phone is as American as driving a convertible in the sun while blasting the Beach Boys on the radio. But talking (and texting) on the phone is a dangerous past time that legislators are trying to curb. In fact, in at least eight states, including New York and New Jersey, it is illegal to use a cell phone while driving unless you use a hands-free device, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

There are a myriad of wireless Bluetooth speakerphones and headsets for drivers, but only a couple of models stand out. This week, I look at two of the best choices, as well as two new gadgets for people who must, absolutely must, have their cell phone with them at all times.

Zomm, $80

Leaving your phone behind can be more than just inconvenient. In an emergency, it may mean you cannot summon help. And if you leave your phone in, say, a cab and it’s stolen, you could end up the victim of identity theft.

A nifty little solution to this modern day problem is the Zomm, a pebble-shaped Bluetooth device
that can be clipped to a set of keys or a purse and paired with your phone. Then, should you travel more than 30 feet from your phone, the Zomm starts emitting an alarm. Think of it as an electronic leash that tethers you to your phone.

ZOMM CTO Gets Caught in the Act! A Message From Peter

Have you ever done something that you know you shouldn’t have…and then got caught in the act?

This happened to me just the other weekend.

As CTO of ZOMM, I carry multiple cell phones and one or more ZOMMs with me at most times.  I keep my work phone paired with the ZOMM on my car keys so that I can answer calls on the go.  That strategy works well for me during the week, but fails me when I borrow my wife’s SUV on weekends.

In this case, while driving the SUV with a spare key set that did not have an attached ZOMM, I got an important work call and was forced to answer the call directly from my phone…

“In 2008, the hands-free law (ESSB 5037) went into effect that prohibits the use of a wireless device such as a cell phone being held to your ear while you are driving.”

…as soon as I put the phone to my ear, I knew I had made the wrong choice. The embarrassing red and blue lights in my rear view mirror further confirmed my bad decision.

As I chatted with the officer, I explained how ironic the situation was.  After all, as CTO of ZOMM, I know the safety benefits of using ZOMM as a hands-free device while driving.  Not only does ZOMM help me manage my calls hands free, but I also know that should I ever be in an accident, help is only a button press away.

Sadly, my explanation didn’t convince her to turn my ticket into a warning… but she really liked ZOMM! She told me that she would be happy to share the virtues of ZOMM as a hands-free device with the other 80 folks she would catch with cell phones to their ears that day.

While her endorsement is welcome, I hope that you were not unlucky enough to hear about ZOMM from that police officer.

I’ve learned my lesson. Those hands-free laws are tough, and the tickets are very expensive. Get your ZOMMs, use them and drive safe everyone!

ZOMM is a Wireless Leash™ for your mobile phone, but it’s also a great hands-free speakerphone option. With one click of the Z-button, you can easily and safely, answer calls on-the-go! See the ZOMM in action in this video:

Hello.

Hey, Ashley.

Hey, Michelle, how's it going?

Going great. You on your way?

Yes. Hey, do I sound any different?

You sound really clear.

That's because I'm on my ZOMM.

A ZOMM? It's the first wireless leash for mobile phones. If I leave my phone in a restaurant, like I did last week, my Zomm will alert me. I'll go back and get my phone, and I will never lose my phone again.

That is so cool!

I can't wait to show it to you. I'll be there in ten minutes.

One Crazy Year with ZOMM!

I am sitting in my office at the ZOMM Corporate Headquarters thinking how crazy the whole ZOMM experience has been. Can you believe it’s only been a year since I came up with the idea of ZOMM? In just one year, ZOMM has become a reality and made its way all over the world.  I’ve seen ZOMM covered in outlets ranging from CNN to the Wall Street Journal.  We’ve generated more than 200 million media impressions in only 9 months!

It’s both amazing and humbling to see people’s lives being changed by ZOMM.  It was especially exciting to see Best Buy select ZOMM for their safe driving campaign and even featured it in their weekend circular.  If any of you get a chance to see ZOMM on the store shelf at Best Buy, please take a picture of yourself with the display and send it to me. I’d love to add it to my scrapbook! (Yes, I scrapbook, but that’s a whole other blog in itself!)

Mobile Phones – USA’s Biggest Time Consumer?

Do you really realize how much time you spend on your mobile phone? Probably not. Most of us have become so accustomed to using our phones that, at the end of the day, we don’t even realize just how many minutes (or hours) we’ve spent absorbing mobile information.

In 2009, online media was the primary time-absorber for US consumers, at a little over 4 hours a day. (Not surprising) In comparison, consumers said they used their mobile phones for just over an hour each day.

The big news here is that during 2009, every form of media consumption DECREASED, except for mobile phones.  Mobile phone use actually increased by 39%. That means you are turning off the TV, putting away your laptop, unplugging the radio…and playing with your mobile phones. (Stats courtesy of E-marketer.com)

3 cell phones

So you use your phone a LOT.  We’ve already established you’d rather be using your phone than watching TV, listening to the radio or browsing the Internet. So where would you be if you lost your phone?

Let’s make sure we never have to find out.

With ZOMM, the world’s first Wireless Leash™ for mobile phones, you won’t ever have to worry. After pairing it with your phone via bluetooth, (no software or apps to download) ZOMM will alert you if you get more than 30 feet away from your phone. Sound like something you need to have? Visit the ZOMM online store to get yours!

Okay, now get off the Internet and get back to your mobile phone. We know you want to.

Ready to make the switch…to a smartphone? Seems like everyone these days is making the switch. In fact, Nielson estimates that there will be 150 million smartphone users by mid 2011. That means people are saying sayonara to traditional mobile phones and adopting smartphones with open arms.

There are a lot of mobile smartphones on the market—and it can be hard to decide which is right for you. We’ve come up with a few recommendations (with the help of Brighthand.com), categorized by price. We hope our guide will help you choose the right smartphone for you!
