At ZOMM, we believe new ideas are the backbone of our brand. As you know, Laurie, the ZOMM Mom, came up with idea for ZOMM while on the treadmill one day. Then, we took that idea and turned it into a product in under a year. We’ve had great success as entrepreneurs, so naturally, we love hearing about other entrepreneurs (especially female ones)!
Here’s to a handful of powerful women in the industries of media, food and fashion who are influencing our world one new idea at a time.
Arianna Huffington, @ariannahuff
This media mogul leads the online news industry as co-founder of The Huffington Post. Since developing the multi-million dollar news website, she’s racked up top media awards, from The Guardian’s Top 100 in Media to being number 12 on Forbes’ first Most Influential Women in Media list.
What’s Arianna up to these days? After AOL acquired The Huffington Post in February 2011 for $315 million, she’s sitting pretty as president and editor-in-chief of The Huffington Post Media Group.
Rachael Ray, @rachael_ray
As the bubbly, modern Martha Stewart, Rachael Ray is a multi-million dollar foodie superstar. Rachael, while working in upstate New York, began simple cooking class promising 30-minute meals. The concept, needless to say, exploded.
Rachael expanded her 30-minute meals into five Food Network television programs, 19 cookbooks (the last six made the New York Times bestseller list within one month) and a monthly Every Day with Rachael Ray magazine. In 2007, Rachael thought she wasn’t busy enough, so she added a daily one-hour, nationally syndicated talk show called Rachael Ray to her empire. What will her next idea be? We’ll all have to wait and see!
Tory Burch, @toryburch
After eight years, 30 stores in four countries and distribution in over 500 department stores, Tory Burch and her self-titled fashion label have burst into the upscale style scene. Tory started her bohemian clothing and accessory lines in her New York City apartment in 2004. A year later, she was endorsed by Oprah Winfrey on The Oprah Winfrey Show.
Since Oprah’s support, Tory has been a busy woman. In between expanding the Tory Burch brand and taking care of her three boys, she’s collected an array of awards, including the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s Accessory Designer of the Year in 2008 and Forbes’ World’s 100 Most Powerful Women.
Thanks for the inspiration ladies!
