Taking it Too Far? Mobile Technology During Weddings

Tuesday we wrote about technology etiquette—from cell phones to laptops and social network updates, we gave our take on the correct way to behave when it comes to technology. However, apparently we forgot one little bit of tech etiquette: weddings.

Recently a video of a bride texting while at the altar has gone viral. We watched the video and just have one question… Who is she texting that’s so important she can’t pay attention to her own wedding vows? This is one of those gotta-see-it-to-believe-it things, so here’s the video:

This isn’t the first time cell phones have been at the altar. You’ve probably seen a YouTube video or two where a bride or groom whips out their cell phone to update their Facebook status or post a tweet. Have you ever seen it as a part of the ceremony, though? Before this groom is allowed to kiss his bride, they must update their Facebook statuses:

Maybe you’re not into having mobile technology used that way during a wedding—we can understand that. But what if mobile technology could allow people, that otherwise couldn’t, be a part of your wedding? That’s exactly what the next couple did. When one of the bridesmaids couldn’t afford the airfare to get to a wedding over 1,500 miles away, they FaceTimed her into the bridal party! A groomsman carried her down the aisle—on an iPad 2. Check it out:

Would you use mobile technology in your wedding ceremony? We’d love to hear your thoughts on this!

I feel really bad for the groomsmen in that third video! He has to know how ridiculous he looks.
