How many times have you been frustrated about losing something? Whether it be your cell phone, car keys, wallet, library book or even your favorite penny—losing things sucks. Retracing your steps makes you feel silly and you inevitably have to answer the notorious, “Well, where did you leave it?” question numerous times.
So, we all know how frustrating it is to lose one of these things. Now take a look at some of the things that have been lost throughout history, and imagine how these poor souls felt.

LOST: The First Watch Worn on the Moon
Buzz Aldrin famously wore an Omega Speedmaster on the outside of his spacesuit during Apollo 11. The watch was later lost when he shipped it to the Smithsonian Institute
LOST: Ernest Hemingway’s Fiction Manuscripts
Hemingway’s wife, Hadley, lost a suitcase containing all but two of his fiction manuscripts. At the time of the loss in December 1922, none of Hemingway’s fictions had yet been published. He had to rewrite everything.
LOST: Atlantis
According to Plato, the island of Atlantis sank into the ocean—and completely disappeared—overnight. While the truth about this is often disputed, we still think losing an island must really be frustrating.
