Talking on a cell phone while driving: One of the hottest topics in state and local legislatures across the country. Do you know the laws in your state? Thanks to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, we’ve compiled a list of info to help you educate yourself:
As of January 2011, 9 states have completely banned the use of hand-held cell phones while driving:
- California
- Connecticut
- Delaware
- Maryland
- New Jersey
- New York
- Oregon
- Utah
- Washington
Local laws (not state-wide) have been implemented in several localities, including:
- Oahu, Hawaii
- Chicago, Illinois
- Brookline, Massachusetts
- Detroit, Michigan
- Santa Fe, New Mexico
- Waupaca County, Wisconsin
- Cheyenne, Wyoming
Other cell phone and driving related laws include:
- 28 states have restricted the use of cell phones by novice drivers
- 30 states have banned text messaging for all drivers
- 8 states have banned text messaging for novice drivers
While many states have restricted the use of hand-held cell phones and devices, several still allow for the use of hands-free devices. ZOMM’s hands-free car kit and built-in speakerphone is one of many options available for a safer driving experience.
Be smart and drive safe!

I just bought a Zomm, and am happy with it. Speaking of cars, I suggest that you develop an offshoot product for parents with babies (Baby ZOMM) so that they are alerted when they leave their baby in the car. There would be 2 gizmos, with one of them going on the car keychain and the other to be attached to the baby car seat.
I was surprised to find (reading reviews) that people expected the Zomm device to read their minds. Similarly, the Baby ZOMM would require some effort to use correctly, but I believe it could save lives.
I couldn’t find any way to send you a regular e-mail, so if you are interested in my other thoughts about the potential product, please e-mail me.
Really?! If you cannot remember to take your baby out of the car…then maybe you shouldn’t have one! A better one is a reminder to turn your car/ lights/devices that make your battery die. Now that is more common and it isn’t neglect.
