Super Bowl XLVI: Giants vs Patriots – Social Media Edition

The New York Giants and New England Patriots first met during the preseason this year. Now, they meet again in the final game of the NFL season—the Super Bowl. Both teams have already landed in Indianapolis, home of Super Bowl XLVI, and are preparing for the big game. On Sunday, they will fight it out until only one team is left standing as NFL world champions.

Today we’re going to have to two teams face-off, not based on their football skills, but on their social media skills. Let’s take a look at how they compare:

Twitter:

  • New York Giants — @Giants, 215,434 followers
  • New England Patriots– @Patriots, 301,714 followers

Facebook:

Notable Social Media:

  • New York Giants—This past August, Mashable did a story about the social media initiatives within Giants’ MetLife Stadium. During their preseason game against (ironically) the Patriots, they Giants integrated life tweets from fans into NBC 4’s live broadcast. According to the article, the Giants were the first NFL team to “embrace Twitter to this magnitude.”
  • New England Patriots—Wide receiver Chad Ochocinco has built a significant Twitter following—more than 3.1 million followers—including President Felipe Calderon of Mexico. If you follow @ochocinco, you know that he likes to interact with fans by taking them to dinner, offering dating advice and provide lots of inspirational messages.

We’ll let you decide who wins this battle. And speaking of social media, why not check out ours? You can find us on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube!

Clean Your Inbox Week

Are New Year’s Resolutions made to be broken? A study found that about 35% of people break their resolutions before the end of January. Are you guilty of this?

If you’re already broken a resolution, don’t despair. Now’s the time to start fresh! This week is Clean out your Inbox Week. So if you had a resolution to get organized, clean up your junk, or get to inbox zero, then today’s the day to start!

In honor of Clean out your Inbox Week, we found this article on Life hacker that gives instructions on how to archive your old mail (in Gmail) and have a tidy inbox—in a flash!

clean out your inbox week

It’s simple: select all and hit “archive.” This will clean up your inbox, but keep those messages accessible via the search function in Gmail. That’s right—you’re not losing any info!

Lifehacker also provides tips for keeping that inbox tidy:

  • Get Rid of Newsletters and Ads You Don’t Want

You can get rid of it quickly by doing a quick search for the word “unsubscribe” and creating a filter that automatically deletes emails with that word in it.

  • Create a Whitelist Filter

All you need to do is create a filter that is designed to ignore important messages and leave them in the inbox, but move everything else into a secondary folder (or label, if you’re a Gmail user).

With a clean and tidy inbox, you’ll feel less stressed and be more productive. Up next? Working on those memory skills.

Headz Up App – Stay Safe while Plugged in!

Here at ZOMM, we know how crucial of a role mobile phones play in our lives today. That’s why we created the Wireless Leash—so you won’t ever have to worry about living without your phone. Similarly, the creators of Headz Up App know that you need to stay plugged in no matter what. They’re just making it safer to be!

Ok, so this is really a Saturday Night Live clip, but like writer Alexia Tsotsis at TechCrunch, we hate to admit that this actually sounds a little bit like a good idea…

2012 CES – ZOMM Recap

Alas, CES has already come and gone. It was a whirlwind week—but we enjoyed every minute of it! You can see some photos of our booth, and the new Lifestyle Connect, on our Facebook Page.

We unveiled our brand new product on Sunday night at an event appropriately called “Unveiled.” Since then, we’ve talked to thousands of people about our product and seen lots of media coverage! Take a look at just a few of the publications that saw ZOMM, and the new Lifestyle Connect, as noteworthy:

PCMag.com – Wireless Health Monitoring Solution from ZOMM

Eugene Kim from PCMag.com shared images of the Lifestyle Connect and myZOMM app, along with information about our new product:

“The Lifestyle Connect is compact and lightweight, allowing owners to carry the device with them at all times. Using Bluetooth 4.0 +LE technology, the Lifestyle Connect pairs with any Bluetooth-enabled phone to connect users with a crisis-certified Personal Safety Concierge. Users will enjoy 24/7 service with immediate assistance in any situation.”

The VergeZOMM Lifestyle Connect give elderly a contact in case of emergency (hands-on pictures)

The folks at The Verge got some great hands-on photos of the Lifestyle Connect during Unveiled, and shared them along with description of the product:

“Zomm’s always made products to help you track your stuff, but with the new Lifestyle Connect the company’s fixed its focus on helping the elderly. The Lifestyle Connect is a small dongle that slips into a purse or clips on a shirt, and acts as an emergency response system for the scary ‘I’ve fallen and can’t get up’moments”

In another article, The Verge even mentioned how Verizon is following in our footsteps with their new product!

Engadget – ZOMM Announces the Lifestyle Connect, keeps your trusted friends one button away

With by far the most hands-on photos, Engadget truly showcased the Lifestyle Connect.

“The folks that developed the Wireless Leash Plus, keeping your iPhone close at hand via Bluetooth, have taken the personal security bit of that device a step further. ZOMM has outed the Lifestyle Connect, a personal security monitor that alerts someone from your network of trusted pals in the event of an emergency with a single button push. The device works with any Bluetooth-enabled phone and can also put you in touch with a Personal Safety Concierge 24 hours a day.”

CES 2012: ZOMM Announces Lifestyle Connect, Captures Three Innovation Awards

It’s our favorite time of year: CES is here! It all starts tonight with Unveiled, where we’re rolling out the latest device from ZOMM….Please meet the Lifestyle Connect!

What is it you ask? Well, the Lifestyle Connect is the world’s first cloud-connected mobile safety device. In a nutshell, that means that the Lifestyle Connect will make sure you are always connected to the people you love, the devices you need, and the things that you want.

Lifestyle Connect  does this by connecting to the devices you use most—cell phone, glucose monitor, heart rate monitor, etc—and alerting your friends and family if any of these devices detect a problem. For example, if your glucose monitor detects low blood sugar, it will alert your Safety Concierge, who will then alert the friends, family and/or doctors that you have selected to be notified. The Concierge will stay on the line with you to make sure someone comes to your aid.

As a bonus, the Lifestyle Connect can also alert you if you leave behind things like a purse, wallet or laptop. Simply tag the devices and items that are most important to you and Lifestyle Connect will make sure you never lose them.

You don’t just have to take our word that the Lifestyle Connect rocks—the folks at CES chose Lifestyle Connect as an Innovations Honoree in three categories! Take a closer look at the award-winning device here:

Distracted Driving Laws for the New Year

At the beginning of 2011, we wrote a post about which states have laws regarding cell phones and driving. Since we’re at the beginning of another year, we thought this was the perfect opportunity to update you on how those laws changed over the past year.

distracted driving laws

As of October 2011, AAA reports that 10 states have banned the use of any handheld devices while driving. These states are: California, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Maryland (including D.C.), Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Oregon and Washington.

In the US, 35 states have banned text messaging while driving—5 more than last year. These states are: Alaska, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

It’s important to know the details of these laws in your state—and what the penalties are for breaking them.

Remember, many states still allow the use of hands-free devices. That’s why we created the Safe Driving Kit—it works with the Wireless Leash to provide a safe and hands-free way to communicate while on the go.

ZOMM 2011 Video Recap

It’s hard to believe the end of 2011 is here! In only a few days it will be 2012. We’ve done a lot over the past year, including the release of ZOMM Pink and the Safe Driving Kit at CES last year and the launch of both our Android and iPhone apps.

We also released several new videos in 2011 and wanted to take this opportunity to take a look back at the year in video form:

I get an email from my wife and she says there's a competition at the consumer electronics show in Las Vegas.

We submitted the materials and actually won.

This gave our product instant credibility and really validates who we are as a company.

The people behind the ZOMM took their idea for locating a lost cell phone and turned it into a CES success story, like no other.

Up to five hundred to start. The pink is sold out.

Also if a...

Can I have one of these?

...Yeah, sure, you can have whatever you want.

And it's...

Starts to vibrate.

Oh look, it's vibrating and blinking.

And then an alarm.

Ever had a great day ruined because you have left your phone at a restaurant, movie theater or even your home? ZOMM sounds an alarm if you accidentally leave your phone behind, reminding you to go back and get it. Have you ever been in a situation or where you were in trouble and needed a call for help immediately?

With ZOMM, send a panic alarm and auto-dial 911 with just one press of a button.

911, what's your emergency?

Have you ever needed to answer an important call safely but couldn't? With ZOMM, answer calls with one touch touch of a button and talk hands-free anytime, anywhere.

Hello!

Hey Dad, can you come pick me up?

Yes, I'll be right there.

Thanks, Dad.

OK, bye bye.

So with ZOMM, never forget or leave your phone behind. Answer call safe and hands-free anytime anywhere. Sound a panic alarm or autodial 911 with just one press of a button. Three great features, one smart device. You owe it to yourself, your friends and your family to go to ZOMM.com and get yours today.

We’ve had a great year and are looking forward to another great one in 2012!

The 2012 International CES – a ZOMM Preview

It’s almost that time—time for the biggest trade show of the year: the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES).

2012 CES

We first launched ZOMM at the 2010 show, where we won the 2010 International CES “The Best of Innovations” Award. We traveled back to Vegas last January, where we unveiled the ZOMM Pink for the first time, along with the Safe Driving Kit.

Now we’re gearing up for our third appearance at the show, with something brand new! You’ll have to wait until the show to find out just what it is, but we can tell you that it’s already won three Innovations Awards!

Our whole team will be making the trek to Vegas and we’d love to see you! From January 10 thru January 13, you can find us in the North Hall at booth #2830. If you can’t make it to the show, be sure to follow us on Twitter and Facebook as we’ll be providing updates (and contest opportunities) throughout the show!

Go Techy (and even a little Geeky) With Your Holiday Décor

When you decorate for your holiday celebrations, you likely incorporate things that are meaningful to you. Perhaps that’s a piano-playing Santa that has been passed down generation to generation, a handmade ornament your son or daughter made in pre-school or the Christmas star you picked out with your spouse for your first holiday together.

However, do your holiday decorations include meaningful technologies? Think about it—technology is a part of our everyday lives, so why not let it be a part of the holidays, too? Here are a few ways to incorporate tech into your holiday décor:

Blackberry Ornament

It’s attached to your hand 24/7, so why not attach it to your Christmas tree, too?

Computer Parts Wreath

Pay homage to one of your best friends, the computer, with a wreath of disk drives, CPUs and floppy discs.

Santa USB Stick
